If the world were a village ....

The whole world is a global village. Let's imagine for an instant that this village have 100 habitants, there would be :

- 59 asians
- 14 africans
- 14 americans
- 13 europeans

There would also be 51 women and 49 men.
With 50 under 25 years old.

20 persons (just men), would owned 80% of the village and its wealth. Only 1 woman would own her land.

Between 5 and 6 women would have been rape.

42 persons wouldn't have acces to drinkable water.

50 persons would be living in the center of the village, 50 others would be scattered around.

33 habitants would be living in war, among them 23 would be women.

5 men and 1 woman would be serviceman (or woman) or police officer.

5 children would be working in slavery conditions and 1 girl would be a maid without being paid.

60 persons would know how to read, write and count. 40 would be men.

50 habitants would have acces to health care.

20 persons would have acces to a computer, 15 connected to a internet type network.

1 person would be considered rich, which means she would have more than the necessary wealth to satisfy her needs and those of her family. This person would own 50% of the village and it's wealth.

80 persons would have a religion, 40 would be force to practice (by constraint or by custom), 20 wouldn't practice. However, 5 persons would practice at there own risk.

The village library would be only accessible to 24 persons, and would be forbidden for others. 1 person would go the theatre once a week, and always the same.

Electricity would be off 50% of the time trought lack of means. 30 persons would waste 90% of organic and energy ressources of the village.

5 persons would have already been on holydays. We would forecast that 10 persons would in a 5 years time.

Etc, etc... Those numbers could go on for pages. They help us relativize our place on this planet and measure what we are, us, human
